Our perspective on Chardonnay Tasting
Why we created Chardonnay Tasting
Today, Chardonnay is grown all over the world.Yet no wine region is more closely associated with this grape variety than Burgundy.
Over the years, we have found that many wine lovers enjoy Burgundy's white wines without always understanding what truly distinguishes a Chablis from a Meursault, a Puligny-Montrachet from a Pouilly-Fuissé, or a Premier Cru from a Grand Cru.
We created Chardonnay Tasting to answer this curiosity.
Our ambition is simple: to demonstrate how a single grape variety can produce wines of remarkable diversity through differences in terroir, landscape and viticultural practices.
Céline & Damien's Perspective
When discussing Burgundy's white wines, the conversation often turns to terroir. But to fully understand the influence of terroir, it is important to limit the number of variables.
Chardonnay offers the perfect opportunity to do so.
By working exclusively with one grape variety, it becomes easier to observe what changes from one vineyard to another: texture, balance, freshness, aromatic complexity and length on the palate.
We therefore designed this tasting as a journey through Burgundy's great white wine regions.
From Chablis to the Mâconnais, participants discover how a single grape variety can express remarkably different identities depending on where it is grown.
The objective is not simply to taste great white wines, but to understand why they are different.
• you would like to better understand Chardonnay
• you are curious to compare several terroirs during the same tasting
• you enjoy blind tastings
• you are looking for an experience dedicated to great white wines.
• you would like to taste both white and red wines
• you are primarily interested in learning basic tasting techniques
• your main interest lies in Burgundy's great red wines.
They gain a better understanding of:
• the differences between Burgundy's major white wine regions
• the influence of terroir on Chardonnay
• the distinctions between Village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines
• the various styles of Burgundy white wines
• the reasons why certain vineyards have become world-renowned references.
Beyond knowledge, the tasting also helps build a lasting sensory memory of Burgundy's finest white wines.
Blind tasting temporarily removes the influence of reputation and allows participants to focus on what the wine is truly expressing.
This approach often leads to surprising discoveries and encourages a more personal appreciation of the wines being tasted.
It also helps participants better understand differences between terroirs without being influenced by the prestige of an appellation.
When all the wines are made from Chardonnay, the differences observed are more directly linked to vineyard origin, terroir and the choices made by the producer.
Through ten carefully selected white wines, we offer an in-depth exploration of the many expressions of Chardonnay in Burgundy.
Our objective is to help participants better understand the region's great white wine vineyards while enjoying a tasting that is informative, enjoyable and memorable.

Why taste blind?

It also helps participants better understand differences between terroirs without being influenced by the prestige of an appellation.
