Our perspective on Pinot Noir Tasting

Why we created Pinot Noir Tasting

Today, Pinot Noir is grown in many wine regions around the world.
Yet Burgundy's great red wines occupy a unique place in the minds of wine lovers.
Appellations such as Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Vosne-Romanée and Volnay are among the most sought-after and admired in the world.
Over the years, we have found that many wine enthusiasts are familiar with these prestigious names without always understanding what truly distinguishes them.

We created Pinot Noir Tasting to answer that curiosity.
Our ambition is simple: to help participants discover the many faces of Pinot Noir through some of Burgundy's most iconic appellations.

Céline & Damien's perspective

Pinot Noir is often described as one of the world's most sensitive and demanding grape varieties.
Capable of producing wines of great finesse as well as more structured and powerful expressions, it reveals the character of the places where it is grown with remarkable precision.

Céline shares her approach to the Pinot Noir Tasting experience in Beaune.
It is this ability to reflect the identity of a vineyard that we wanted to highlight through this course.
By tasting exclusively Pinot Noir wines, participants discover how just a few kilometres, or even a few hundred metres, can sometimes be enough to produce remarkably different wines.
From Mercurey to Gevrey-Chambertin, from Volnay to Vosne-Romanée, each appellation possesses its own personality, which we explore throughout the tasting.
The objective is not simply to discover great red wines, but to better understand what has made Burgundy Pinot Noir famous around the world.

What participants usually take away

After Pinot Noir Tasting, participants generally leave with a much clearer understanding of Burgundy's great red wines.
They gain a better understanding of:
•    the differences between Burgundy's main red wine regions
•    the major appellations of the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise
•    the distinctions between Village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines
•    the different styles of Pinot Noir
•    the reasons why certain vineyards have achieved worldwide recognition.
Beyond knowledge, the tasting also helps build a lasting sensory memory of Burgundy's great red wines.

Why taste blind?

When a wine carries prestigious names such as Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny or Clos de Vougeot on its label, it is natural to develop expectations before tasting it.
Blind tasting temporarily removes the influence of reputation and allows participants to focus entirely on what the wine is truly expressing.
This approach often leads to surprising discoveries and encourages a more personal appreciation of the wines being tasted.
It also helps participants better understand the differences between appellations without being influenced by their reputation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I already need to know Burgundy's red wines?

No. The experience is accessible to anyone who is curious about discovering or better understanding the region's great red wines.

Can I request a specific appellation?

Yes. As this experience is entirely private and tailored to your interests, it is possible to include a specific appellation that you would particularly like to discover, even if it is not part of the initial selection.
Whenever possible and subject to availability, we adapt the tasting to match your interests.

Why focus on a single grape variety?
